The École du Ski Francais and the École du Ski Internationale both offer English group lessons. All with spectacular 360-degree views, half of the runs are green or blue, with beginner areas at valley level and each of the peaks, as well as some simple red routes. Megève is a traditional Haute-Savoie village with a rich history as a market town for local farmers, which later grew into one of France’s first ski resorts. If you're in Megeve for a long time and want to visit neighbouring resorts there is also the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass. Four Seasons Megève guests can dine under the vaulted, wooden ceiling at Le 1920, the hotel’s flagship restaurant, with two Michelin stars. The beginners' area on Mont d'Arbois frustratingly has button lifts but Petit and Grand Vorasset can be avoided by riding the Mont d'Arbois gondola. Megeve is the main part of the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area - the 4th largest in France. You can ski over to Cote 2000 and back to clock up more kilometres, stopping at the Radaz for the best tartiflette on the mountain. Alpage (Tel: +33 4 50 93 12 76)  Located at the bottom of Communailles, the food at Alpage is excellent and good value. Chalet Noémie, the original family home built in 1920, is still the jewel in its crown, with Chalets Alice and Eve completing the triangle. Therefore taking a guide, and listening to their advice, is heavily recommended.

Located at the top of the Jaillet cable car, lunch is buffet style, and although it is a little expensive, the views across Megeve with Mont Blanc in the background are simply stunning and won't find many restaurants with a better view than this. There's also a kiosk with deckchairs where you can get drinks and sandwiches cheaply in good weather. Families will find lovely gentle slopes that are more reassuring for the youngest skiers. The Auberge and the Club are a lot cheaper and good value. It has a man-made half pipe, as well as a large selection of kickers for all abilities.

Pertuis. Each year, the Sports Club hosts events for an ever-growing number of cross-country skiers. Apres-ski in Megeve is relatively sophisticated and in keeping with the traditional French flavour of the resort and its well-heeled clientele, Megeve is not a place for rowdy après ski. She set about putting it on the map as a ski-destination, building Palace des Neiges in 1921, and inviting King Albert I of Belgium to stay. Choose from a range of options, between a simple flight over the Megève Valley, lasting 15 to 25 mins, to reaching a mountain summit and flying down. You can spend hours window-shopping in the many boutiques or sipping cafe-au-lait in the chic cafes before wandering around the historic buildings in the centre of town, then take a sleigh-ride home in one of the many caleches (horse drawn carriages). The bolthole features a fine dining restauraunt helmed by two star-Michelin chef Edouard Loubet. + Extensive ski area Well worth it for that blow out meal of the week. Megève was one of the earliest ski resorts to be created - a French answer to St Moritz. The accommodations are decorated in alpine style and offer balcony views of the mountains and valleys below. Voltigeurs and Bridans, the moderately steep black pistes that snake down through the trees on Mont d'Arbois are often overlooked by the majority of skiers but are very enjoyable. Espace du Mont Joux (Tel: +33 4 50 58 99 67) Situated at the top of the Mont Joux chair, Espace du Mont Joux has a reasonably priced menu including good spaghetti dishes and service is good.
Rental shops. Favourite lunch spots are Le Gouet for a traditional dish of 'Pella des Aravis' and any of the restaurants at the bottom of Les Communailles. In the words of Ariane De Rothschild herself: “Megève is like a sleeping beauty.” Today it remains an exclusive ski destination tailored to the wants of the modern beau monde skier traveller with diverse ski terrain that appeals to all types of skiers. Gentlemen, be sure to pack a tuxedo and ladies, your best fur and cocktail gown as the dress code is black tie at many establishments. Alternatively take a pamper at the hotel’s Turkish bath or full service spa. Heading the highly coveted restaurant is Chef Emmanuel Renaut who turns traditional mountain cuisine into modern dishes with sustainable ingredients.
